Quarantine Throwback: Peregrine Falcons
This is an article from July 28, 2020. Enjoy!
Peregrine falcons are really fast birds and can dive up to 200 mph. They are one of the best hunters too. They eat starlings, pigeons, and doves. Peregrine falcons can live anywhere. They can even live in cities. These speedy birds do not build nests as other birds do. They build their home on dips in rocks. They can also have the nest on the edge of a building.
In the 1950s to the 1970s, they were endangered by the pesticide DDT. The pesticide made the birds’ eggshells super thin so when they incubated the eggs they would break. Since they banned DDT peregrine falcons numbers have increased so they are no longer endangered.
