Quarantine Throwback: Why do Flamingos Stand on One Leg?

This mini-article was written on June 17th, 2020.

Why do flamingos stand on one leg? The answer is thermoregulation. Researchers found that flamingos lounge around when they are standing in water and when the temperatures are on the colder side. This helps them maintain their body temperature.  They put their legs in the water to cool their legs off. They tuck their legs up into their body to stay warm.
