Housemaid: The book or the movie?

The best way to explain the movie is nothing. Just going into the movie with very little knowledge of the plot is key. It is a lot of ups and downs. This movie combines a little bit of horror, psychological thriller, and romance into the final product.

*Spoiler Warning*

Diving deep into the twists and turns, “Andrew is the psychopath” twist stands out so greatly. In both the book and the movie, I felt myself rooting for him because he is such a “great” person. The twist also stands out because I thought this movie was going to be average and basic: a movie with a crazy person who ends up killing people. That would be very derivative of other movies.

After watching the movie, I read the Housemaid book for the first time. What shocked me was how big Enzo’s character, backstory, and thoughts were highlighted in comparison to the movie. Enzo really got fleshed out and added new layers by being a heartthrob to neighbors, as well as how his sister had the same issues Nina was having.

Furthermore, watching the movie literally had me on the edge of my seat. I am not going to lie, that was one of the only times I have done that. It is a fun time when an analogy actually comes true. I kept on saying “Millie, don’t do it!” and kept on being scared of Nina Winchester.

I don’t follow the online hate for some of the people cast in this movie. I thought that all the actors became their parts, especially with the three leads.

A critique would be that the movie is not scary or thrilling to the point I expected. The movie knew how to create big suspense in different ways. Maybe it should have had more rising action because the end of the movie is rushed.

The ending: let’s talk about it. It was obvious to continue the series and to wrap up the movie with an unusual ending. Millie becoming a housemaid who tries to murder their husbands in a clean, controlled way was peak.

Overall, I think the movie was a faithful adaptation of the book, and I feel like both are worthy to enjoy.

I am excited to continue the series!
